Mary Squires Calls for Hudgens to Retire After Radio Interview

(Atlanta, Ga) Mary Squires, Democratic nominee for Georgia Insurance Commissioner, responded today to Republican Insurance Commissioner candidate, Ralph Hudgens', claim that “the Insurance Commissioner can't do squat about healthcare.”

Appearing on the Martha Zoller morning program on WXKT radio in Gainesville Tuesday morning, Hudgens failed to realize that his microphone was live during a commercial break. It was during the break Hudgens told Zoller forcefully that “the Insurance Commissioner can't do squat about healthcare.”

“We've already had sixteen years under an Insurance Commissioner who didn't do squat about health care. If Ralph Hudgens believes he is not up to tackling the most important problem facing Georgia families he should retire or find a less complicated office to run for.” said Squires.

Squires was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1998. Squires served two terms in the Georgia State House (1999-2003) and one term in the Georgia State Senate (2003-2005).  In addition to her legislative experience, Squires served ten years in the Georgia Army National Guard. Mary Squires currently is the Executive Director of the Georgia Society of Professional Benefit Administrators, Inc., a self-insured health care trade association. Squires and her husband Tom West of Augusta currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia and have four children.
